"Hotel Rwanda" is a film by Terry George and based off the true story of Paul Rusesabagina, a man of Hutu descent and hotel manager in Kagali, Rwanda, who manages the Hotel Mille Collines. When the country breaks out into war, Paul focuses on protecting his wife Tatiana who is Tutsi as well as his three children. But soon, desperate refugees fleeing the Hutu malitia seek shelter and Rusesabagina must make the difficult and life threatening decision of whether to accept these refugees into his hotel to protect them. Once he has done this, he faces the many difficult obstacles that come with this act of heroism. He must fight to keep out the malitia by bribing the Rwandan forces and those with power with beer and money to protect his hotel and refrain from revealing their position. Overall, Paul ends up sheltering over a thousand refugees from death. Within the film, Paul Rusesabagina risks his life and liberty to save those who are desperate and out of help or hope. This true story reveals a true hero who gave up everything to help those whom the rest of the world had ignored and be a ray of hope for a nation that was crumbling.
