The country is Rwanda. Hotel Rwanda is a thought-provoking, informative and dramatic film which focuses on the horrific events of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. It is based around the true story of a true hero, Paul Rusesabagina, who was a hotel mangager in this country in Africa. He sheltered over a thousand refugees in this hotel during the genocide and as the country descended into madness, he risked his liberty and life to save those who the rest of the world could not care to protect. Hotel Rwanda was filmed in 2004 by director Terry George. It was nominated for three Academy Awards® which were Best Actor - Don Cheadle, Best Supporting Actress - Sophie Okonedo and Original Screenplay. |
